Voyage in a White Building 1
The music in this video was composed from 1966 to 69, by Burr Van Nostrand. The piece creates a sonic world that is dependent not only on the capability of the performers, but also their interaction with each other. The poem is Voyages I by Hart Crane.
Performed in April 2012, this is the first performance of the piece since the 1970s and includes Anthony Coleman as conductor, Lautaro Mantilla as the speaker and a chamber ensemble from New England Conservatory. A new recording of this work was made in October 2012 and is now available at http://www.newworldrecords.org/album....

THE GREAT LEARNING PARAGRAPH 5
The Great Learning was one of composer Cornelius Cardew‘s most influential works. This piece is written as a series of seven “paragraphs” with text from the writings of Confucius and originally scored for the Scratch Orchestra, an ensemble of both trained and non-trained performers who interpreted verbal and graphic scores, who were active from 1969-1974.
